Sagan takes on Velikovski (and wins) - a parable
The following discourse by Dr. Carl Sagan illustrates just how wrong intelligent people (even with the prestige of a medical degree in psychiatry) can be in their thinking, when they either have too few supporting facts or find it too easy to ignore all of the facts as they actually are.
Now, there is a curious argument alledging major recent collisions in the solar system proposed by a psychiatrist named Emmanuel Velocovski in 1950. He suggested that an object of planetary mass, which he called a comet, was somehow produced in the Jupiter system. He doesn't say exactly how it's produced, but maybe it's.. spat out.. of Jupiter. Anyway, however it was made some 3500 years ago, he imagines, it made repeated close encounters with Mars, with the Earth/moon system, having as entertaining Biblical consequences the parting of the Red Sea so that Moses and the Isrealites could safely avoid the host of Pharoah and the stopping of the Earth's rotation at the moment that Joshua commanded the Sun to stand still in Gideon. He also imagined that there was extensive flooding and volcanoes all over the Earth at that time. Well, then after a very complicated game of interplanetary billiards is completed, Velicovski proposed that this comet entered into a stable, almost perfectly circular orbit, becoming the planet Venus, which he claimed never existed until then. Now, these ideas are almost certainly wrong. In any scale model of the solar system like this, it's impossible to have both the sizes of the planets and the sizes of their orbits to the same scale, because then the planets would be too small to see. If the planets were really to scale in such a model, as grains of dust, it would then be entirely clear that a coment entering the inner solar system would have a negligible chance of colliding with a planet in only a few thousand years. Moreover, Venus is a rocky and metallic hydrogen poor world, whereas Jupiter, the place that Velicovski imagines it comes from, is made of almost nothing but hydrogen. There's no energy source in Jupiter to eject planets or comets.
[By the same token, psychiatrists never say exactly how otherwise normal minds somehow spontaneously generate the perception of voices or other inexplicable sounds in lumping such reports into catch-all diagnoses of schizophrenia or paranoia. They simply refer to a few sensational historical psychotic examples and apply them erroneously to inexplicable reports of high tech harassment and then refer to the growing body of erroneous diagnoses as being evidenciary of NEW erroneous diagnoses. The intelligence services and military have known this for decades and it didn't take rocket scientists among them to conceive of a global strategy of controlling, interrogating and knocking people down based on accentuating the fears of targets and the use of high-tech attack tactics, which then ultimately emulate many of the symptoms of true schizophrenia and naturally occurring paranoia. The fact is that a target under attack often IS paranoid, but for perfectly explicable reasons, if those were only proveable by targeted individuals, which the intelligence services and military have taken extraordinary efforts to prevent. Furthermore, no psychiatrist has the tools or experience to determine if technologies such as Dr. James C. Lin's Microwave Auditory Effects and Applications are or have been in use in a given situation. Thus, as far as the 'mind control' dilemma goes, psychiatrists tend to be even more clueless than your average person, since in their self-perception of expertise, they often believe they already know the answers to questions which are quite beyond their skill and ability to answer.]
If one did enter the inner solar system, there is no way it could stop the Earth from rotating and if it could, there's no way the Earth could start up rotating again at anything like 24 hours a day. There's no geological evidence for flooding and vulcanism 3500 years ago. Babylonian astronomers observed Venus in its present stable orbit before Velicovski said it existed and so on. There are many hypothoses in science which are wrong. That's perfectly alright. It's the aperture to finding out what's right. Science is a self-correcting process. To be accepted, new ideas must survive the most rigorous standards of evidence and scrutiny. The worst aspect of the Velikovski affair is not that many of his ideas were wrong or silly or in gross contradiction to the facts. Rather, the worst aspect is that some scientists attempted to suppress Velikovski's ideas. The suppression of uncomfortable ideas may be common in religion or in politics, but it is not the path to knowledge and there's no place for it in the endeavor of science. We do not know beforehand where fundamental insights will arise from about our mysterious and lovely solar system and the history of our study of the solar system shows clearly that accepted and conventional ideas are often wrong and that fundamental insights can arise from the most unexpected sources.
Carl Sagan - Cosmos series episode 3 - 'Heaven and Hell'
The mind control dilemma bears a certain resemblance to the elements of Velikovski's illusory argument. Psychology and psychiatry professionals seem to find it easy to disregard the fact that it's also a pretty profound leap to assume that the brain is somehow spontaneously generating the perception of voices and other sounds. Psychiatrists, having never developed any clear, self-consistent and logical mechanism for continuing reports of such phenomena, simply give the phenomenon a label, providing an air of legitimacy in the name rather than face the more complex and difficult reality than the one that they have learned in their textbooks and lecture halls. But there is already an explanation available, which few of them seem to have even heard about or seem particularly interested in hearing about (perhaps since it complicates their own world views enormously).
In Sagan's brief lecture, we clearly see a tendency for at
least one
psychiatrist to mix religion into his thinking, mystifying flimsy
reasoning with his own hopes and unsupported beliefs and superstitions.
Mckinzey and Freud are other prominent names that have also erred in
their thinking with some real doozies (in addition to some astute
observations for which they have received due credit).
"The field
of
mental health is highly subjective, capricious, and dominated by whims,
mythologies, and public relations. In many ways it is a pop culture
with endless fads but with no real substance." - Dr. Walter Fisher,
Assistant Superintendent, Elgin State Hospital.
It also appears to be serving as the strategic linch-pin of the
MC
system. Even though psychiatrists are emminently aware that the
brain and nervous system is an electrochemical machine and have taken
part in the development of means of both the surveillance (in the form
of MRI and other technologies) and the manipulation (Dr. Jose Delgado's
and Dr. Ewen Cameron's insidious research for example) of the brain and
the body's physiology, few if any practicing physicians seem able to
understand how anyone else outside a clinical environment could
possibly be using such means for harassing and 'virtually
interrogating' others.
"Man does not
have
the right to develop his own mind.
We must electronically control the brain. Someday armies and
generals will be controlled by electric stimulation of the barin."
Dr. Jose M. R. Delgado
Director of Neuropsychiatry
Yale University Medical School
We live in extraordinarily dangerous times. Anyone would
acknowledge
that microwaves are very real and can do extraordinary things, from
heating objects to transferring information. Hypersonic sound wave
generators are equally real and can make sounds that appear to emanate,
not from the generator itself, but form the object that the wave is
aimed at. If you were being hit by either transparent technology in a
harassment scenario, how would you begin to prove it? You could not. If
a loved one prevailed upon you that they were being hit with such
things, how could they prove it to you? They could not. What could you
do to help them? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Particularly when an
incredulous public and news media refuse to comprehend the danger or
the emphatic reports of people being hit with such means. In such an
atmosphere, the situation can only grow worse.
A few weeks ago, I was invited to join a friend for a day on a
yacht
belonging to his father, who is a retired psychologist. I asked him if
any of his patients had ever reported persecutorial phenomena of the
type that I have described here at AFAFA. He mentioned a patient
who had complained of being talked at by one or more of the electrical
appliances in his home. That one I'd heard of before - the
modulation of noise upon the 60 hertz hum that is barely discernible as
voice, but which is difficult or impossible to record in a discernible
way. Whether or not the father ever knew it or not, I knew as I
brushed a hand across its sleek surface that at least part of that
yacht was built upon at least one target's back. And I was
reminded that it's always MC's targets who foot the bill. Too bad
he and his colleagues can't seem to understand that too (or admit it).
Perhaps the greatest mystery of all is why no psychiatrist or psychologist has never managed to bridge the gap between the reports of intelligent, articulate, otherwise normal and increasingly numerous people complaining of high-tech harassments and clandestine pressure tactics and the billions in research synopsized at the link below. Surely all that research would have been intended for SOME purpose. Right? Unfortunately, much of that research also requires involuntary human experimental lab rats to be tested effectively.
A History of Involuntary Human Research Experimentation
Exerpt:
Letter by Dr. Eldon A. Byrd, former director of the Marine Corps Nonlethal Electromagnetic Weapons Development Project from 1980 to 1983, provided to Cheryl Welsh, president of CAHRA (Citizens Against Human Rights Abuse):
January 8, 2002
To Whom It May Concern
This letter of recommendation has been prepared to introduce and support both a technology and a person. The person is Cheryl Welsh, a law student and researcher who is engaged in trying to find out what is behind the thousands of cases of reported abuse against humans that is causing pain and suffering to innocent victims. The technology is one which, if applied malevolently, could cause the abuse.
... The technology she is investigating opens the door to the possibility that humans are being used as subjects in a massive, worldwide experiment to test mind control techniques. Although there is no hard evidence for such a claim, the ‘dirty hands’ of governments in the past (the Third Reich, e.g., and several well known and documented human experiments by other governments, including our own) to experiment on its citizens without their permission, makes her claims plausible.
... I am qualified to evaluate the technology involved, having
been
in charge of the U.S. Marine Corps Electromagnetic Non-lethal Weapons
Development Project in the early 1980’s, wherein it was shown that it
was possible to alter the behavior of animals with magnetic fields, and
entrain human brain waves remotely. Since then, the technology has
progressed to the point where even genetic engineering with fields is
possible and demonstrable. That the technology to inflict mind control
on human beings exists is beyond question ...

This just in! The American
Psychological Association advertises on NPR about "bringing psychology
to
everyday life". Apparently they mean the teaching of tactics
so-called New
Path* to every other Joe Shmo screenwriter, author and their
brothers. Not that the APA per se is officially doing anything of
the sort, though some of its members surely are. The weatherman
says to expect continued culture-wide
global warming in terms of gerneralized suspicion factor (more fist
fights, shootings, divorces and such due MERELY to chance word
misinterpretation) when a hugely comprehensive effort in the media to
super-define even mundane words like cat, mountain, rain, cookie, file,
red, green, etc, etc, etc.
is underway to frack with naughty people in various ways and to
compliment other tactics. Even if that change is slight, I'd
expect it to be measurable. Certainly, if enriches the
language. If you know how to read, do you not spend more time
wondering if a green object or graphic object were intended to be
anything more than... green? If you're in conversation with
someone you've just had an argument with (a little emotionally unstable
or suspicious or mistrustful about) and he/she mentions something about
a cat that seems just a little out of place, and that alternate
interpretation pops up in your mind in addition to the obvious one,
you'll know what I mean. Trust comes into play hugely. Some
will be only too delighted with that, despite the collateral
damage. And don't blame me for stating the obvious about some of
those words. Many are so obvious that any fool can get it.
You might think that only suspicious types and people with something to
hide would so
react. I disagree, though I'm sure they would be most influenced.
As I said elsewhere, if
someone else attacks you in such ways, then a friend's innocent use of
them later also can easily become a possible attack in your measure of
probable interpretation. And some will be just delighted with
that too.
Society has always alter-defined many words. Otherwise there would be no double-entendre and such. But was it always this clandestine, implicit and concerted? Psychology has always been at least a bit of a pseudo science, a measure of the prevailing political climate and a sham ever since Freud (it's all too easy to label someone a schizophrenic) and intel has long had its tendrils within it since MKULTRA if not much longer.
*Coined in the film A Scanner Darkly. Notice the shape
shifter suits representing roughly the covered-identity mirroring
(also symbolized as identity switching in the film 'What Dreams May
Come') of both targeted people (as a way of preventing their being able
to legally question those mirrors) and of people doing the mirroring
(as a way of preventing their being legally questioned for doing so) in
movies and other media and other forms of cover. Sounds like
substance D, in addition to representing the deadly drug in the film,
also represents New Path as well. If ever there were a full time
MC novel writer, then it was surely Philip K. Dick.
